Yin + Yoga Nidra

Join us at 6 PM on Sunday evenings (Columbus Day - Memorial Day) for a 90 minute for Yin and Nidra class at Metta Yoga Seacoast in Salisbury, MA. The room will be warm, Yin holds will be set to frequencies known to regulate and heal the body, closing gently with an extended Yoga Nidra savasana. Yin, sacred sound ratios, and Yoga Nidra are three curative systems known for their ability to assist central nervous system strengthening and repair, and for cultivating dimensions of consciousness by improving the circulation of energy throughout and around the body.

The body is a memory repository for everything we have experienced; everything. There are physiological and emotional benefits to targeting layers of tissues in the body that our yang practices are not designed to address.

Yin identifies and re-directs energetic charges we have bound in the body as muscle tension —habitual blocks we have unintentionally built against distressing experiences. We don’t learn to identify and re-direct an energetic charge by repressing it, trying to get rid of it with constant movement and activity, or by filling it up with things outside ourselves.

The body’s language is slow to speak. As we practice, we learn to stay with the sensation of a charge in order to nourish ourselves with it. Becoming familiar with charge, attending to it, and redirecting it lies at the root of all clearing, transformation, and healing.

Pairing Sound + Yoga

How we hear a sound has a profound impact on all aspects of our being. “More diverse listening abilities equal a more diverse life.” (Dr. John Beaulieu, Human Tuning)

I pair Yin and Nidra with sacred sound ratios that pre-date modern musical genres. Here’s why: Any song we like (or don’t like) attaches to our emotional body as a neural core imprint, or in other words, music puts us in the “state” we were in the first time we heard it. In this way, music gets paired in our minds and bodies with events, behaviors, people, places, and things. There is no where to go in the conscious mind with sound frequencies because the vibration (or tone) carries the energy beyond the biases of the mental and emotional narrative to the core where they can transform without attachment interference.

Usui/Holy Fire® Reiki

Reiki is defined as spiritually conscious life force. The literal translation of “Reiki” is derived from Japanese: “rei” meaning “universal” and “ki” meaning “life energy.” Reiki is one of many methods of energy healing. In the most basic sense, energy healing targets the energy centers in and surrounding the human body.

Reiki has many benefits, which can include the following:

  • Calmer mind

  • Creativity boost

  • Better memory

  • Enhanced personal awareness

  • Relief from traumatic experiences

  • Decreased anxiety or depression symptoms

  • Alleviation of physical pain

Many people report that Reiki has helped them heal from complex emotions, insomnia, and low self-esteem, all of which are associated with early recovery. Moreover, individuals who receive Reiki or Reiki placements as part of becoming Reiki practitioners report that they benefit spiritually. I am a Usui Holy Fire® Reiki Master Teacher. I offer Reiki 1 and 2 placements and classes periodically with Nicole LaMalva, also a Usui Holy Fire® Reiki Master Teacher.

Reiki Research

A research study at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut showed increased overall patient satisfaction with the treatments. The findings indicated that Reiki improved patient sleep by 86 percent, reduced pain by 78 percent, reduced nausea by 80 percent, and reduced anxiety during pregnancy by 94 percent. In the same study 75% of the patients who participated said that they would “definitely want service again”. Hartford Hospital, Integrative Medicine, Outcomes. Measurements obtained during the initial pilot phase of the study, December 1999 - December 2000.

Distant Reiki group had a significantly lower heart rate (74.3+/-8.1 bpm vs 79.8 +/-7.9 bpm, p=0.0003) and blood pressure (106.4+/-9.7mm Hg vs 111.9+/-11.0mm Hg p=0.02) post surgery.
